His Excellency Prime Minister Adil Abd Al-Mahdi expressed his optimism about the future of relations between the two countries and peoples and overcome many difficulties, during the extended meeting between the Iraqi and Iranian official delegations in the presence of Iranian President Dr. Hassan Rouhani,


His Excellency commended the Iranian officials for their hospitality, confirming that Baghdad was called Peace City and Bayt al-Hikma (wisdom house). It should also be a house of peace in our orientations and relations with all our neighbors from all Arab and regional countries, which we are keen to promote, especially after the victory of the Iraqis with their precious sacrifices.


His Excellency added: We came to follow up the good implementation of what we agreed on in Baghdad and to add more agreements to achieve more cooperation and convergence in the political, economic and social fields, and we implement what we agreed on around the Shatt al-Arab, As well as the extension of the railway between Basra and Shalamja, electric connection, facilitate visas for citizens, investors, and other forms of cooperation, In addition to the construction of industrial cities, calling for the establishment of ceilings to implement all our agreement and agree in all areas, In addition to the need to hold meetings between Iraqi security officials and their Iranian counterparts on border issues, smuggling and drugs, pointing out to the joint cooperation to face the threat of the floods which the Iraqi and Iranian peoples suffered and the solidarity of Iraq and its people with the families of the victims.

During the meeting, they discussed the development of bilateral relations and cooperation, increasing trade exchange, energy and health fields, the extension of the Basra-Shalamja railway, border issues and customs.

The Iranian president thanked the Iraqi people and his government for the hospitality he received during his visit to Iraq.

President Rouhani expressed the readiness to encourage investors in the fields of developing services and housing construction in Iraq, achieving electric linkage, implementing agreements on the Shatt al-Arab, cooperation in the technical, oil, financial fields and raising the level of trade exchange.

His Excellency Prime Minister and The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani discussed the regional issues, the positions on the Palestinian case, the importance of adopting dialogue and peaceful solutions to end the conflict in Yemen, to remove wars and crises from the region.

At the end of the joint talks, His Excellency Prime Minister Adil Abd Al-Mahdi and The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani attended a press briefing on the course of the talks and prospects of the relationship between the two countries.
