His Excellency Prime Minister,
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed
Forces Dr. Haider Al-Abadi has
chaired a meeting of the
Ministerial Council for National
Security, focusing on discussing
the water shortage in Iraq.
The Council has viewed a
presentation by the Minister of
Water Resources, which included
a plan to address the expected
water scarcity for the current
summer. The impact of climate
change on the level of water
revenues, In addition to the
effects of the measures taken in
the neighboring countries, in
particular the start of filling
Ilısu Dam in Turkey, The Council
has adopted the necessary
decisions on strengthening water
security during the summer
period, where it was agreed to
secure water rations to meet the
needs of the citizens of
drinking water and agriculture,
taking into account the
rationalization of water
consumption.
The Council has directed the
relevant authorities, including
the Ministry of Water Resources,
the Ministry of Municipalities,
the Ministry of Agriculture, the
Ministry of Finance, the
Municipality of Baghdad and the
security authorities to take the
necessary measures to implement
the water scarcity plan.
The Council has also reviewed
the developments in the
processing of electric power to
meet the needs of citizens. The
Council stressed the need for
provincial councils to adhere to
quotas and do not exceed the
energy to ensure the
distribution of electric power
between the provinces of the
country.
