PM Al-Abadi Receives a Phone Call from NATO SG Stoltenberg

Prime Minister, Dr. Haider al-Abadi, answered on Friday a phone call from the Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, where they discussed issues pertaining to the security situation in Iraq and the region, training and arming Iraqi forces as well as NATO support to Iraq in its war against Daesh terrorist gangs.
SG communicated to al-Abadi during this call consent of the NATO members to contribute to the capacity building of Iraq and develop its potentials in the military and other vital fields with the provision of full support to Iraq.
Mr. Stoltenberg said that NATO is working to develop policies to implement an action plan that includes the provision of military training and medical services during a period of six months in cooperation with the Iraqi government after determining the priorities in these areas.
For his part, the Prime Minister thanked the Secretary General for this initiative, which is very important to assist Iraq, the region and the whole world in their effort to defeat terrorism and confront this serious challenge as well as the development of military capabilities of Iraq with the consolidation of human rights principles and how to contribute to the stability of the region.
Dr. Abadi said that there is an urgent need for the provision of demining devices to remove the risk of IEDs that have long caused a lot of losses and hampered progress of the Iraqi forces. The secretary-general agreed about the importance of supplying this type of device as soon as possible and the determination of priorities to support Iraq after discussion with members of the alliance.
