H.E. PM Dr. Haider Al-Abadi received a delegation from the U.S. Congress headed by chairman of House Committee on Homeland Security Mr. Michael McCaul and the accompanying delegation.
The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and the political, security and economic conditions in addition to the war against Da'esh.
H.E. reasserted his stand regarding Iraq's rejection to the bill of the U.S. House Committee on Armed Services referring that any external support to Iraq should be through the central government to keep Iraq's sovereignty; as such bills undermine the efforts of fighting Da'esh and leads to polarization in the region.
Dr. Al-Abadi clarified that the forces in the battlefield are making victories against the enemy while the latter is depending on psychological and media war and rumors to cover its defeat.
On its par the guest delegation commended the performance of the Iraqi government and the victories against Da'esh expressing the readiness of Washington to meet the needs of Iraq in this field, especially that the U.S. considers Da'esh as a serious threat to its security and the international community wants Iraq to be secure to play its role in the region and the world.
The congress delegation consisted of Pete Sessions, Will Hurd texas, Vern Buchanan, William Keating, John Kato, Kathleen Rice, and Barry Loudermilk.
