H.E. PM Dr. Haider Al-Abadi received the Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches His Eminence Cardinal Leonardo Sandri and the accompanying delegation.
The meeting discussed the current conditions in Iraq and the region and the situation of Christians in Iraq in addition to the terrorist attack and its danger on the world.
Dr. Al-Abadi mentioned that Iraq faces a terrorist attack and an enemy which neither believes in moderation nor diversity, and this danger necessitates the support of the international community to Iraq. H.E. clarified that Iraq has many sects and components without which Iraq will no longer be the same as we have lived together and we will be so in the future.
On his part Cardinal Sandri conveyed greetings and prayers of the Pope of Vatican Cardinal Francis to the Iraqis and expressing his solidarity with them and indicating that most Iraqis believe in justice and democracy and they don’t consider in marginalization of others, and Iraq will restore its security and stability.
Moreover, Dr. Al-Abadi invited the Pope of Vatican to visit Iraq to see some cultural and archeological landmarks.
