Prime Minister Dr. Haider Al-Abadi meets with the Russian President

Prime Minister Dr. Haider Al-Abadi met on Monday, on the sidelines of the General Assembly meeting of the United Nations, the Russian President Mr. Vladimir Putin.

During the meeting they discussed the situation in the region and strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields and the war on Daesh terrorist gangs and Russian arms to Iraq.

They also addressed the danger of Chechen fighters with Daesh gangs, which represents a common threat to Iraq and Russia in addition to the strengthening of bilateral relations in the area of intelligence and security, and the development of relations in the fields of economy and energy.

Mr. Putin expressed Russia's full support for Iraq in its war against terrorism in addition to the continued support of Russia to invest in Iraq, especially in the field of energy, noting that Russia efforts in Syria is focused on the fight against Daesh, as well as helping in arming Iraq to fight these gangs.

In turn, Dr. Al-Abadi stressed the importance of all international efforts, including Russia, to stand with Iraq to fight Daesh gangs because they represent a real threat to the world and the region.
