Prime Minister, Dr. Haider al-Abadi, called on the Iraqi Journalists to actually contribute to the promotion of national unity, pass on free expressions, contribute to peaceful coexistence and invalidate rumours that the enemy is trying to promote.

His Excellency, addressing the Iraqi Journalists Association at the 146 anniversary of the Iraqi Press, recognized the Iraqi journalists, war correspondents and families of the press martyrs for their patience, sacrifices and their efforts to convey the truth of the fronts of confrontation.

PM added that the Iraqi press has a long march that strengthened Iraq's position among the nations and enhanced democracy, signifying self-censorship that contributes to delivery of the truth and fights rumours and lies.

Dr. al-Abadi said: "The terrorists are trying to hit the national fabric by attacking the places of worship of a particular sect then attacking the places of worship for the other sect. This has been the case in Iraq earlier, and it recurs today in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and other countries, noting that some countries attempted to fancy that this threat is away from them, but there exist organized cells that spread all over the world, thus all nations of the world are keen to establish a security and intelligence cooperation with Iraq.

The prime minister pointed out that we cannot succeed but to fight on two fronts, the first front is terrorism and the second is corruption.

H.E. called on young journalists to the rectify the course and verify information before publication because scoop shouldn't be made make at the expense of sane information, noting that the Arab and international press are trying to transmit negatives images about Iraq, ignoring the steadfastness of the Iraqi people, preservation of the political process, freedom of the press and fighting terrorism as the Iraqi steadfastness and sacrifices forced the world to stand with them.
