PM Al-Abadi meets US Senator John McCain

PM Al-Abadi met in his office today US Senator John McCain and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, they discussed issues related to the security and political situation in Iraq and the region, efforts exerted to fight ISIL organization, victories achieved over these terrorist gangs, and future cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

Dr. Al-Abadi explained that Iraqi troops stationed in battlefields have succeeded in targeting ISIL terrorist gangs and defeating them, but that Iraq still needs more support from the international community to completely eradicate the threat of terrorism.

H.E. also claimed that Iraq is open to establishing foreign relations, adding that the countries which he has visited and officials who have visited Iraq all expressed their willingness to collaborate with Iraq and provide their assistance in different areas, especially in its war against ISIL. The Iraqi PM further stressed that Iraq has a sincere desire to build a collaborative relationship with the international community in general, and with neighboring countries in particular, on basis of common interest, mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs.

For his part, Senator McCain expressed his country's support with Iraq and the Iraqi government, especially in its new approach and its fight against the terrorist organization of ISIL.
