Dr. Al-Abadi met in his office today Senator Pat Roberts, chairman of the US Senate economic committee, and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the current security and political situation in Iraq and the region, the war against the terrorist   gangs of ISIL, as well as the relations between the two countries.

Dr. Al-Abadi pointed out that our security forces, in addition to the popular mobilization and Peshmerga forces have achieved many victories and are on the road of defeating terrorist organizations. H.E added that defeat will require greater international support for Iraq through cooperation to cut off their funding and prevent the widespread of their extremist ideology, in order to eliminate these gangs as quickly as possible.

H.E. further explained that there is a clear defeat on the side of terrorist gangs and a determination to liberate every single land of Iraqi territories to start a new phase of security and reconstruction, as well as to achieve the aspirations of Iraqi people.

Iraqi PM also affirmed that he sensed an understanding from the countries he has visited and from the officials who have visited Iraq, that the threat posed by ISIL affects not only Iraq, but the region and the world as a whole.
