PM Al-Abadi met in his office today Egyptian Foreign Minister Mr. Sameh Shoukry and his accompanying delegation

During the meeting, both sides discussed the current security and political situation in Iraq and the region, as well as ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries. They stressed the importance of forming strong ties between Iraq and the Arab Republic of Egypt, since their relations have long historical roots, thus the necessity of further strengthening them in order to better serve the interests of both fraternal peoples.
In addition, H.E. called upon all States in the region to cooperate in order to ward off the threat posed by the terrorist gangs of ISIL, and to fight against their ideology which is not in any way linked to Islam.
H.E. also expressed his wishes to establish special relations with Egypt and to promote cooperation in areas such as security, politics, economics, and trade.
For his part, H.E. Sameh Shoukry conveyed the greetings of Egyptian President Mr. Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and those of Egypt’s Prime Minister to Dr. Haider Al-Abadi, and extended an invitation to H.E. Al-Abadi to make an official visit to Egypt. Shoukry also expressed the keenness of the government and people of Egypt to maintain Iraq's security and sovereignty and their wish that Iraq may overcome its current challenges.
