H.E. Prime Minister Adil Abd Al-Mahdi: We are proud in the developed of the Iraqi-German relations

His Excellency Prime Minister expressed his pride in the historic relations with Germany and his appreciation for its supportive stance towards Iraq and its people in confronting terrorism, establishing security, stability and contributing to the reconstruction of Iraq.

His Excellency Prime Minister said, during reception of the German Minister for Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas and his accompanying delegation, that the Iraqi-German relations have made important progress for the two countries and the two peoples, we look forward to strengthening them in the future in all fields and expanding cooperation to enhance security and stability in the region.

For his part, the German Foreign Minister expressed his happiness to visit Iraq, said that: "We are very pleased to be with you in Baghdad and to express to you the interest of Germany in the first place to contribute every effort to achieve the Iraqis' aspirations, and the German government wishes you success in the mission of the Iraqi government, Pointing out that Germany has supported Iraq to achieve security and stability and humanitarian aspects, willing to continue cooperation and support the Iraqi government in its efforts to strengthen the institutions of the State and fight corruption and all that can be provided, expressing their desire to increase the presence of major German companies in the development of electric power in Iraq and other vital projects, noting that his country's interest in Iraq's stability, growth and prosperity is an expression of respect for its position in the region and its role in its stability and the elements of development.

On the Iraqi government's stand concerning the sanctions against Iran, His Excellency Prime Minister confirmed that sanctions ramifications can be reflected negatively on Iraq while Iraq is not part of it.

The German foreign minister pointed out that points of views are identical concerning the sanctions while Germany and other EU countries have developed new mechanisms for trade with Iran.

On the situation in the Middle East, the guest minister underscored that Germany does not support the decision of some countries to transfer their embassies to Jerusalem considering such steps adversely affect peace efforts.
